China to Mauritius.
China is the other major inbound corridor into Mauritius. FMCG, electronics, machinery, textile, building materials, and high-frequency container volume make up most of what moves. The Mauritius-China Free Trade Agreement gives preferential duty access on a published list of HS lines, and the Freeport regime is most heavily used on this corridor for re-export onward into Africa.
Importing from China? Where the cost usually hides on this lane.
- Origin handling charges. Chinese suppliers often quote a price that excludes a long tail of origin-side charges (CIC, terminal handling, document fees). Buying FOB and instructing your own forwarder at origin is usually the first lever to pull.
- Mauritius-China FTA preferential duty. The agreement has been in force since 2021 with preferential rates on a long list of HS lines. As with CECPA, eligibility hinges on the right certificate of origin and an accurate HS classification.
- Freeport eligibility. Goods you re-export onward into Africa or the Indian Ocean islands do not need to enter Mauritian duty if they stay inside the Freeport regime. We see this missed where the original consignee plan was bonded all along but the broker filed for home use.
A Trade Restructuring engagement quantifies each leak across your last 12 months of Chinese imports and writes the restructured flow.
Named ports, mode mix, agreement notes.
Sea
Direct services from Shanghai, Ningbo, Shenzhen (Yantian), and Qingdao into Port Louis on the major carrier alliances. Transhipment options through Colombo, Jebel Ali, or Singapore where direct rotations do not fit the calendar. Typical transit ranges for sea freight from northern Chinese ports run longer than from southern Chinese ports; the exact day count depends on carrier service and transhipment.
Air
SSR International Airport sees regular co-loaded air from China via Dubai (DXB) and Johannesburg (JNB). Direct seasonal capacity runs from time to time. Time-critical consignments usually route via the Gulf for both belly and freighter availability.
Mauritius-China FTA
In force since 2021. Preferential tariff treatment in both directions on a defined list of HS lines, with rules-of-origin per chapter. The customs broker files the certificate of origin at clearance time. Eligibility testing is part of every consulting engagement on this lane.
Freeport options
Most heavily used corridor for the Freeport regime. Bonded storage, light value-add, repackaging for onward African distribution, and re-export with no Mauritian duty applied to goods leaving the zone. Where the Freeport story for Mauritius actually earns its keep.
Chinese origin agent? Here is the Mauritius end.
For Chinese freight forwarders running consignments into Mauritius and looking for a single accountable destination counterpart, BCorp coordinates the Mauritius end: customs clearance via licensed brokers, last-mile delivery, warehousing including Freeport bonded options, and accounts settlement. Routing is chosen on what suits the cargo, not on any operator preference.
