Active corridor · India to Mauritius

India to Mauritius.

India is the largest single inbound corridor into Mauritius today. Textile and apparel, machinery, processed food, pharma, and FMCG move into the island weekly. CECPA gives Mauritian importers a real preferential alternative on a long list of HS lines, and most of our consulting work on this lane starts with whether the eligible regime is being claimed.

§ IIf you are importing

Importing from India? Three places most Mauritian importers leave money on the table.

  1. The Incoterm. Buying CFR or CIF means the Indian supplier picks the carrier and routes the destination charges through their nominated forwarder. The destination invoice almost always adds back what the C-term saved on the FOB side.
  2. CECPA. The India-Mauritius Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement gives preferential duty on a published list of HS lines. Eligibility needs the right certificate of origin filed at customs. We see this missed on shipments where it would have been claimable.
  3. Destination handling. Charges between the supplier's forwarder and the local Mauritian counterpart often duplicate what is already inside the ocean freight. A proper audit separates the line items.

A Trade Restructuring engagement walks all three layers on your last 12 months of shipments, with the actual numbers in front of us.

§ IIHow the lane runs

Named ports, typical modes, agreement notes.

Sea

Direct sailings into Port Louis from the major Indian ports. Westbound from Nhava Sheva (JNPT) and Mundra carry most of the volume; Chennai serves the south-Indian load centre; Mumbai sees occasional direct sailings depending on service rotation. Transit times sit in the typical range for the Arabian Sea and western Indian Ocean leg, subject to carrier service and any transhipment.

Air

Mumbai (BOM) and Bengaluru (BLR) for direct air capacity into SSR International Airport, with co-loaded options from Chennai (MAA) and Delhi (DEL). Time-critical consignments and perishable cargo run on the direct legs; consolidated air uses the network when direct space is tight.

CECPA

The India-Mauritius CECPA has been in force since 2021. Eligibility is decided at HS-line level with rules-of-origin calculations and the right certificate filed by the customs broker. Common eligible categories include several textile and apparel lines, machinery, chemicals, and selected processed foods. We test eligibility alongside the broker on every consignment where it might apply.

Freeport options

For volume routed onward into Africa or the Indian Ocean islands, the Mauritius Freeport handles bonded storage and light value-add inside the zone without paying Mauritian duty on goods that re-export.

§ IIIIf you are an origin freight forwarder

Origin agent looking for a Mauritius arm? Here is how to nominate us.

For Indian freight forwarders running consignments into Mauritius and looking for a destination counterpart, BCorp acts as your single Mauritius contact. We coordinate customs clearance through licensed brokers, last-mile delivery, warehousing, and accounts settlement. You get one accountable contact, one settlement, and routing chosen on fit per shipment rather than tied to any single Mauritian operator.

Named contact for incoming agent inquiries: Patrick Bouquet, Director. Until a dedicated Trade Lane Manager is appointed, agent enquiries land with him directly.
